In 1890, schoolteacher Mary F. Bennett founded the Bennett University for women inside the village. The varsity provided a six-yr program of research: 4 yrs of highschool and two of better study. In 1907 it moved to Millbrook in Dutchess County, and dropped the highschool grades, getting to be a junior school; The varsity was renamed to Bennett Sch
